Sofapaka sign former Ingwe keeper Ian Otieno

Sofapaka FC have completed the signing of former AFC Leopards goalkeeper Ian Otieno on a long term contract, the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) club announced on Friday.

The 24-year old who was out contract at the Den will rival Ugandan shot-stopper Mathias Kigonya for the number one spot and is already relishing the challenge.

“I don’t expect things to be any easy. Look, Kigonya being the first choice goalie means he is good while the rest of the young men are coming up well. That means I have my work cut out in making the first team. But it is possible for a good measure if I work hard,” Otieno was quoted by the club’s website.

Otieno becomes the latest capture in a growing list of new signings to arrive at Sofapaka, with the 2009 champions having already roped in Kepha Aswani (Nakumatt FC), Jackson Saleh (Western Stima) as well as Kariobangi Sharks duo Ibrahim Kitawi and Elli Asieche.

The Batoto ba Mungu kicked off their transfer window with the high profile signing of former Ulinzi Stars hitman Stephen Waruru and have showed no sign of stopping as they plan to wrestle the KPL title off Gor Mahia FC in 2018 having finished second last term.
