Sofapaka survive Posta scare to close on Gor

Sofapaka FC survived a late assault from Posta Rangers FC as they claimed a 3-2 victory to trim Gor Mahia FC’s Kenyan Premier League (KPL) lead back to six points on Wednesday.

John Avire scored the opener for Sofapaka before Umaru Kasumba and George struck inside the opening four minutes of the second half but the hosts were given an almighty late on.

Strikes from Felix Oliech and Francis Nambute left Posta needing just one goal to snatch a point and set up a nervous final 20 minutes but the Sofapaka held on to seal maximum points.

Western Stima FC had earlier won 3-0 against Mount Kenya United at the Kenyatta Stadium while Tusker FC were 3-1 winners over Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bukhungu Stadium.

David Majak, Boniface Muchiri and Jackson Macharia scored to guide Tusker back to winning ways with  Daniel Sakari scoring Homeboyz’s consolation.

That match was played 30 minutes early after the early kick-off, pitting Nzoia Sugar and AFC Leopards, planned for the same venue was not played.

At the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani Mathare United piled misery on relegation-threatened Zoo Kericho FC with a 3-1 defeat. Cliff Nyakeya scored a brace with Clifford also getting on the score-sheet.

Martin Elungat scored from the penalty spot for Zoo who had midfielder Danson Chetambe sent off in the 59th minute.
