Soin Primary Girls Volleyball team rule the Rift

National Primary School Girls volleyball champions, Soin Primary School from Turbo in Uasin Gichu County have set their eyes in retaining the title this year after easily winning the Rift Valley region championship.

The Primary School queens won all their matches with identical 3-0 to retain the regional title in the one-week event played at Nasokol Girls Secondary School and Chewoiyet Boys secondary school in West Pokot.

Head coach Joseph Birech, who is also the School Sports teacher, says his girls are set to light up the national championships set for next month in Meru County.

“We are currently in Camp at Kaboswan in Bomet County because we are still in half term; we will be here for some time before resuming school shortly after the Savlon Cup Championship,” he told Citizen Digital.

The annual Savlon Cup is slated for June 30, 2019, in Nairobi where the girls are the defending champions in the junior competition and their aim is to defend the title, which will be used to prepare for the national event.

“Our squad hasn’t changed, we only introduced one new player Elizabeth Cherobon, who has left many astonished because of her skills, she’s short but very strong,” he added.

Soin Primary, representing Uasin Gichu County, defeated Nandi County in the final 3-0 (26-24,25-19 and 25-21) having also defeated Narok, Kajiado and Samburu in other group stage matches.

They easily excelled 3-0 against Turkana in the quarterfinals and Laikipia with a similar margin in the semi-finals.
