Sony end Nakumatt streak, Thika hold Mathare

Sony Sugar returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion as they hit Nakumatt FC 3-1 at the Awendo Stadium to climb off the bottom of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings.

Defeat for Nakumatt ended their three-match winning streak as American coach Melis Medo began life as the Retailers’ boss on a wrong footing.

Meshack Karani put Sony in front in the 11th minute after he was teed up by Tobias Omondi before Brian Nyakan restored parity in the 63rd.

Enock Agwanda and Stephan Onyango then had late strikes in the 70th and 80th minutes as the hosts sealed only their fourth win of the season.

In Machakos, Mathare United squandered yet another chance to cut the gap on leaders Gor Mahia FC as they drew 1-1 with Thika United who finished the match with 10 men after Shami Kibwana was red-carded.

The visitors had taken a shock lead inside the opening ten minutes courtesy Eugene Mukangula’s opener but Clifford Alwanga replied in the 69th as Francis Kimanzi’s men settled for a second successive draw.
