Sony Sugar FC ready to make football return

Sony Sugar FC management says the clubs is ready to make a comeback to football after more than 8 months in the cold, once the league resumes.

In an interview with our sister station Ramogi FM, club secretary Bonface Odhiambo said the club which was expelled from the top tier competition last term after failing to honour three league matches have rebranded and are ready to make a strong comeback.

However, Sony’s return will have to be ratified by Football Kenya Federation’s top decision organ, and even so they can only be cleared to feature in a lower-tier league once they meet all the requirements.

Odhiambo also added that though they haven’t secured a sponsor, they will not depend on any institution for support. It remains unclear how they’ll bankroll their activities.

The club, initially under the support of Sony Sugar Company Limited, had struggled to stay afloat as the firm faced tough financial times.

In August last year, the club secured sponsorship with Quanta Dragon Limited, a Hong Kong based firm but the deal fizzled in the thin air even before ink could dry on paper.

Other than financial difficulty, the club will have to build a new playing unit after their former players decamped to other clubs after the expulsion from the KPL.

Sugar belt clubs – Muhoroni Youth, Chemelil and Sony have endured horrid times as the sugar sector experienced a dip in business, and they are not of the woods yet, making the future uncertain.
