Sorry for the heart-wrenching defeat, Kipyegon apologises to Ingwe fans

AFC Leopards left back Isaac Kipyegon has apologised to Ingwe fans for the disappointing result they registered in yesterday’s Mashemeji derby where they fell 4-1 in the hands of arch-rivals Gor Mahia at Kasarani.

The 26-year-old who joined the den last year has however assured that the team will bounce back against Bandari FC at Mbaraki Sports Club, Mombasa after the international break on Nov 21.

After the weekend win, Gor Mahia top the league on 18 points while Leopards dropped drastically to seventh on 15 points.

“We are so sorry to all our fans for the disappointing display and result. We know they are hurting but I want to assure them that we will bounce back immediately,”he said.

Prior to yesterday’s Mashemeji derby, Leopards had enjoyed a fine run of going seven matches unbeaten since losing their opener against Kakamega Homeboyz in September.

Gor Mahia, on the contrary, headed into the match after losing their last two matches against DC Motemba Pembe and Mathare United in Caf Confederations Cup and Kenyan Premier League respectively.

Kipyegon has also blamed lack of concentration in the first half saying it greatly contributed to their inability to convert the several chances they created.

“We did not utilize the chances we had in the first half and in the second half we were nervous after we conceded the first goal through set-piece,” he lamented

Kipyegon who was playing his third derby yesterday since joining Leopards in November last year under the then head coach Nicola Kavazovic, still insists that all is not lost.

“We are very ready for what is ahead and nobody among us is willing to give up on this,”he added.
