Spanish giant Barcelona are reportedly chasing the signature of Arsenal forward Theo Walcott ahead of January transfer, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

Despite Walcott, proneness to injury, Barcelona is said to have set their eye on the Arsenal star to act as a back-up for the forward trio of Neymar, Messi and Suarez.

The 26-year-old England forward is currently out with calf injury that is expected to sideline him until December.

Barcelona’s transfer suspension is set to be lifted in January giving them the green light to venture back into the market to boost their squad.

The Catalans have also been linked with former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie who currently plies his trade at Turkish club Fenerbahce.

Barcelona is reported to have courted the 32-year-old Dutch striker to take up a similar role as that expected for Walcott, as a backup for their forward line.

Messi is currently out injured leaving Suarez and Neymar as the only options for a striking role as the battle for supremacy in the Spanish league takes shape.

Szczesny wants Arsenal return

Meanwhile, Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has expressed interest in making a return to the Emirates after his loan deal with Roma.

Szczesny is set to spend this season in Serie A after his move to Roma during summer transfer after the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea.

“I still have a dream to play for Arsenal despite the loan move to Roma. To me, Arsenal is more than just a club, it is a family and I owe so much to the people at the club,” he said.

Elsewhere, Barcelona has apologized to Getafe for storming their post-match press conference in Halloween costumes after their Sunday victory.

Barcelona players including Gerard Piqué, Luis Suarez, Neymar, Marc Bartra and Jordi Alba stormed the conference, donning Halloween masks after their victory at the Coliseum.

The intrusion occurred at the press room just as Getafe player Víctor Rodríguez was trying to talk to journalists about his side’s 2-0 defeat.

“In no case was it our intention to offend and/or hurt any member of Getafe’s team,” read a statement on the club website.

“Our emergence in the post-game interview area during Víctor Rodríguez’s press conference was an unfortunate and involuntary accident. We would like to personally apologise to him, as well as to express our respect for him.”

The statement further read: “The team is aware of the responsibility that comes with being a player for FC Barcelona and would like to apologise to anyone who may have been offended, especially Getafe’s players and supporters.”

“We have an unwavering commitment as well to the members and supporters of FC Barcelona, who have to be able to feel proud of the team, both on and off the field.”

Suarez and Neymar scored for Barcelona with the former taking his goal tally to 11 goals this season.

The pair has now scored Barcelona’s last 14 goals since Messi’s injury with each scoring 7 during that run.

The win places Barcelona joint top with Real Madrid at 24 points though the latter have superior goal difference.
