Sparkling, slay Malkia storm to semis
The Kenya women volleyball team are through to the semi finals of the African Nations Championship after they secured a third successive win, beating Congo RD 3-0 on Monday evening in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
The Malkia Strikers who are also the defending champions beat Congo by three straight sets to nil, scoring 25-17, 25-15 and 25-12 against the Congolese.
The Strikers currently top group B on nine points with a match to spare against a tricky Tunisian side whom they face on Tuesday.
Kenya beat Nigeria and Senegal by 3-0 margins respectively in previous matches scoring 25-16, 25-8 and 25-1 against Nigeria and 25-21, 28-26, 25-15 against Senegal.
Tunisia and Senegal who both have 3 points were due to sweat it out in a late contest in another group match while group A rivals.
Cameroon are due to test the might of Algeria from 8 pm (Kenyan time).
With the championship acting as qualifiers for the 2018 FIVB World Championship in Japan, Malkia Strikers who are in a superb form will be aiming at winning an unprecedented 10th title and qualifying for the championship in Japan.
Tuesday’s match against Tunisia will be a litmus test for the African Queens as Tunisia are considered to be among the tournaments favorites alongside Kenya, Cameroon, Algeria and Egypt.
