Leopards take charge as Tusker home in

The Mashemeji Derby lived up to its billing as the biggest match of the weekend as AFC Leopards struck late through Lamine Diallo to bring an end to Gor Mahia’s 35-match unbeaten league run in an incident packed fourth round of the 2016 SportPesa Premier League.

On Saturday, Mathare United missed the chance to hold on to their lead when they were forced to settle for a barren draw against newly-promoted Kakamega Homeboys at Kasarani Stadium.

The Slum Boys will have themselves to blame for their wastefulness in front of goal while Homeboyz have their shot stopper, Phillip Odhiambo, to thank for a standout performance that earned the newly promoted side a share of the spoils.

In another match pitting newcomers Posta Rangers against 2009 champions Sofapaka, Moses Otieno’s lone goal was enough to inflict a third successive loss to Batoto ba Mungu, with their opening day promise fast receding to distant memory.

Sofapaka are evidently still trying to cope with having to lose key players who left before the season kick-off due to the financial woes affecting the once glamour money club and head Coach David Ouma believes his boys are learning in every match.

Zedekiah Otieno’s Rangers seem to be sending an early warning to league opponents after avoiding defeat in all their four of their opening matches and sit fourth on the log.

Hosts Chemelil Sugar settled for a barren draw with Nairobi City Stars with the sugar millers lying ninth on the log having collected five points and scored only once in four.

In another fixture, Tusker rallied from behind to beat Muhoroni Youth 2-1 in an exciting game at Muhoroni to claim top spot albeit for 24 hours after falling behind in the second minute to Wycliffe Ochomo’s goal.

Former Sofapaka players, Collins Shivachi and Anthony Ndolo were on target to give their team a third win of the season and now sit second on the log on nine.

In Kisumu, hosts Western Stima held visitors Thika United to a 1-1 draw in an end to end match where Fredrick Shimonyo put the hosts ahead in the seventh minute before captain Dennis Odhiambo restored parity in the 14th from the spot after striker Brian Tooorach was fouled in the box.

Thika are yet to register a single win in the league, and currently sit 14th with two only points from two draws.

In Ruaraka, Ulinzi continued their unbeaten league record to 4 matches after downing hosts Ushuru 1-0 thanks to John Mark Makwatta’s 55th minute goal in another Sunday encounter.

The result left Robert Matano’s soldiers in fifth with eight points, while Ushuru are placed 10th with four.

Bandari bounced back from their mid-week loss to AFC Leopards, beating Sony Sugar 1-0 at Mbaraki Sports Club. Anthony Kimani’s 15th minute goal was all the Dockers needed to claim all the three points.
