Spluttering Ushuru seeking end to sour winless run

Ushuru FC last tasted a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) win four months ago, a shocking run that has left the club poised dangerously above the relegation zone and Coach Ken Kenyatta crossing fingers ahead of their crunch league fixture against relegated Nairobi City Stars on Friday.

The Taxmen (25) are just three points clear of 15th-placed Sofapaka FC but it is the Batoto ba Mungu’s devastating form towards the end of the season that has seen them pick maximum points in two of their last matches that will worry Kenyatta the more.

Over the same number of matches, Kenyatta’s charges have picked up just a point with a winless streak stretching back an outrageous 13 games.

“It will be a tough game, especially playing against a team that’s not under any pressure. You plan one game at a time and it entails three impacts a loss, a win or a draw thus one could be caught in between the three results.

“A coach is always under pressure to perform, that’s his work and it’s normal. Even the key players feel the pressure too whenever they play because they want to make impact. It depends, last match I drew against fairly strong opponents in the same situation and I hope to win against City Stars,” Kenyatta told Citizen Digital.

The tax men will miss the services of suspended Roy Okal who is ineligible to play after accumulating five yellow cards.

On the other hand, City Stars Assistant Coach Dennis Okoth pledged his charges will not ease their feet off the gas as they look to bow out on a high.

“There is life after relegation, everything is not over. It is a difficult experience that we are facing because players may lack motivation give their best but we cannot just play, we will compete.”

Financial crisis in the club resulted in a mass exodus of their finest players in the preseason and in the mid-league transfer window, which has been pointed as the major hindrance to registering positive results.

Given their superior goal difference, Sofapaka (-10) are more likely to survive the chop at the expense of Ushuru (-16) should the two tie on points come the end of the season in November, 19.
