Sports CS Achesa takes the mantle, vows to weed out cartels

The newly appointed Cabinet Secretary Rashid Mohammed Achesa has promised to revamp the Ministry of Sports and Heritage and to ruthlessly deal with the cartels crippling sports in the ministry.

Briefing reporters on Tuesday morning during the official hand-over from the outgoing CS Dr. Hassan Wario who will be assuming a new role as ambassador to Austria; Achesa said that he will unveil his agenda for the Ministry soon.

Achesa pointed out that his personal experience in sports will help him in utilizing the unique skills in the sector. Achesa also pointed out that he will bank on the advice from all stakeholders and work as a team with all Ministry’s employees.

“It is with great joy that I today (Tuesday) assume leadership of the great ministry which carries the hope of thousands of sports people as well as others in the dynamic world of Culture and Heritage.

“I come to this office fully aware of the great weight put on me to lead the Sports and Heritage sector into high level of success. In due course I shall unveil my agenda after reviewing and being fully briefed on the activities of the Ministry,” Achesa said.

Achesa pointed out that his personal exposure in sports will come in handy in utilizing unique skills and advice from all stakeholders and work as a team with all Ministry employees.

“It is important to recognize that Sports and Heritage are no longer past-time activities  but a source of livelihood for thousands of our young people,” Achesa said, while also taking time to applaud his predecessor Dr.Wario
