Echesa meets Sevens players, vows to look into their grievances

Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has promised to look into the grievances afflicting Kenya Rugby Sevens players as well as the general plight of the game.

Echesa made the remarks via a tweet on Monday when he held a crisis meeting with the Sevens players at his office.

In attendance were former skipper Andrew Amonde, speedster Collins Injera , amongst others.

Echesa’s meeting come just days after the Kenya Rugby Union sacked Innocent Simiyu as head coach of the Sevens team following the fallout from the team’s outing at the Paris Sevens where the players construed to conceal the Brand Kenya’s  ‘Make it Kenya’ message on their shirts as a protest over delay in settling their allowances.

The move by the players did not go down well with Brand Kenya, prompting Tourism CS Najib Balala to cancel the Ksh 20 million sponsorship deal the former had with the team.
