SPORTS ROUNDUP: Chelsea Lift Capital One Cup as Arsenal Move to Third Place in EPL

Tottenham dominated the early stages of play before John Terry put Chelsea ahead just before halftime, firing the ball home from close range after Tottenham failed to deal with a free kick.

The Premier League leaders doubled their lead after 56 minutes when Diego Costa's fierce cross shot took a big deflection off defender Kyle Walker going past Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Chelsea comfortably dealt with Tottenham's rare forays forward and victory completed a perfect day for them.

In a match played earlier on, Manchester City suffered a rear defeat against Liverpool in the premier league competition to give Chelsea an advantage putting them five points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Jordan Henderson put Liverpool ahead in the 11th minute before Phillipe Coutinho added the second in the 75th minute. Manchester City scored their goal through Edin Dzeko in the 25th minute but were unable to pull off an equalizer as Liverpool defence remained alert to ward off any threats.

Arsenal saw off Everton 2-0 to record their third straight league win and go third in the EPL table pushing Manchester United to fourth despite their win against Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The match played at the Emirates saw Arsenal score there goals through Giroud in the 39th minute and Rosicky in the 89th minute to bounce back from a 3-1 Champions League defeat in the hands of Monaco last week.

Goals from Wayne Rooney through a penalty in the 66th minute and 84th minute header ensured Manchester United takes all the three points against Sunderland. The penalty came about after a foul on Radamel Falcao with Wes Brown being sent off after he was judged to have commited the foul, though replay clips show it is John O'shea who was guilty of the offence.
