St Anthony vow to defend National hockey title

National hockey champions St Anthony Kitale Boys have vowed to defend their title as the Term One School Games kick off in Mombasa on Tuesday.

St Anthony coach Kevil Lugalia has said his charges are in their best as he warned their challengers to expect fireworks.

The East African champions will start their campaign against Coastal side St. Georges before tackling Meru School in day 2 and finish their group test against M-Pesa Foundation Academy.

“We are in Mombasa to defend our title and nothing else so every team facing us must be very ready,” Lugalia said.

Elsewhere Eastern region’s Kangaru High School are out to claim their first Rugby 15’s national title.

Their best record was reaching final during 2010 national games staged at the same venu when they lost to Mangu in the finals.

Kangaru Captain Collins Maina assured that they are now ready to lift the trophy and represent Kenya in the East and Central Africa games in Mwanza Tanzania later this year.

“We are not just participating but we are here to take the title this time round as our predecessor reached final some 9 years back here.”

Kangaru are in pool B alongside former champions Kakamega High, Galana high from Coast and Rift valley’s Kabianga.

The week long championship will kick off tomorrow(Tuesday) at Shimo La Tewa Secondary School and Shanzu teachers College in Mombasa.
