St. Anthonys Mayoyo breathing fire ahead of Botswana tie

A day after demolishing Ethiopia 11-1 in the Copa Coca-Cola Africa Cup tournament opening fixture at Nakuru Boys grounds, Kenya’s representatives St. Anthony head coach Peter Mayoyo wants a more beautiful show in their second match against Botswana on Wednesday.

Kenya and Botswana will be meeting in the final preliminary match, the former seeking just a draw to seal a quarter final spot.

Mayoyo, who is also this year’s National School games champion in the Under-16 category, says he will use the same squad he fielded against the Ethiopians on Monday.

“I’m at home, not thinking of a draw although it should be enough for us to progress. I also want a good score in terms of goals, because I feel my boys are good and we have prepared well. You cannot under utilize your potential in such a competition,” Mayoyo told Citizen Digital after taking his charges through Tuesday’s training session.

The tactician maintained his target is to win the first edition, noting that his top guns will be primed for National team U-18 duty by next year.

“When an inaugural competition is hosted in your country you only have one target so my eyes are on the title come Saturday. I expect football scouts from tomorrow when the competition heats up,” an upbeat Mayoyo said.

At the same time, South Africa were the first to storm to the last eight of the week-long tourney after a 0-0 draw against Tanzania as the competition entered day two on Tuesday.

South Africa thrashed Angola 10-0 in their opening group D tie on Monday sailing through as the group winners.

In other fixtures, Malawi lost their second match against Mozambique going down 2-0 to crash out of the tournament. The former lost her first match against Uganda on Monday.

The week-long event will end on Saturday with finals to be played at the Afraha Stadium.
