St.Peter’s Mumias crowned new champs, Bishop Njenga Girls defend Western title

After knocking out defending champions Kakamega Green Commandos at the County level, the Saints have been the talk of town in the corridors, streets, markets and even schools with the main topic of discussion being how they defied the odds to go to the regionals as champions.
Under the leadership of Coach and Principal Cosmas Nabongolo, St Peter’s Mumias have unprecedently won their first regional football trophy in the history of the school which has been a powerhouse in rugby 7s and academics for long.
The Patrick Fundia and Rajab Kibengua Coached side will represent the county in the nationals in Kisumu later in July as champions after convincingly coming from a goal behind to beat Kibabii Boys 2-1 at a packed Sudi stadium.
In the girls legball, Bishop Njenga from Kakamega defended their title by beating Brenda Girls Misikhu of Bungoma 3-0.
Kibabii were first to score through captain Munai John in the 50th minute after a 0-0 draw in the first half thanks to the Saints’ missed penalty .
The Saints quickly equalized through Omar Somombwana’s penalty which had been called after the Bungoma based side player handled in the box.
In the 72nd minute, St Peters went ahead through Mohamed Abeid who screwed the ball on the left side hitting the post to roll inside the net with from Mumias rising up on their feet to cheer .
The boys in yellow pressed for the third goal to cement the lead but it was Kibabii who came close number of times in the second half missing opportunities inside the goalkeeping territory with goalie Said Alele rising to the occasion severally to silence Kibabii fans .
Bishop Njenga girls got their goals through captain Violet Wanyonyi who scored a brace while Liambira Maria scored the third.

In girls volleyball, defending champions Lugulu girls from Bungoma failed to repeat last year’s prowess after losing 2-3 to new champions Sulumeti girls from Kakamega .
In netball girls Bukhokolo Girls from Bungoma are new champions after beating Bumala AC from Busia 49-20.
