St Peters Mumias to face Kibabii in Western region final

Kakamega champions St Peter’s Mumias have booked a final ticket to battle it out with Bungoma champions Kibabii Boys in football finals of the Western region secondary schools’ games that are ongoing in Bungoma county.

Favourites the Saints beat Busia’s Bunyala 2-0 to earn a ticket to play Kibabii -who managed to hit Vihiga champions Ebwali High- with the same margin in the first semi-final both played at Bungoma High.

Enroute to the final, St Peters finished top of Pool B winning two matches and losing one while Kibabii won one and drew two to finish second behind Bunyala Model from Busia.

Kibabii thrashed Bugina 3-0 after drawing 0-0 against Bunyala Model and 0-0 against Emanani from Kakamega at the group stages while St Peters Mumias managed to recover from a shock 0-1 loss to Ebwali from Vihiga to beat Emaliki from Bungoma 2-1 and finally hammering Bungoma’s  Mundika 5-0.

St Peters head coach Peter Fundia has warned that nothing is stopping his side from lifting the trophy to represent the region at the nationals in Kisumu.

“We knew that we will beat them and that we were hiding our cards. We knew I would beat them early and now we are focusing on the final match against Kibabii and we will beat them,” roared Fundia.

Bunyala goalie Pepe Christopher has hailed the Saints for a wonderful display and hopes to do better next year.

“St Peters has played well but they could not score many goals now that I was in the goal. I thank God the game has been one to enjoy and that no one has gone out for an injury, we will try to improve next year,” Pepe declared.

In the girls’ category, regional defending champions Bishop Njenga Girls from Kakamega will play Brenda Girls from Bungoma in finals on Friday with both finals boys and girls taking place at Sudi Stadium.

Bishop Njenga tore apart Mudavadi Girls 5-0 in the first semi-final while Brenda Girls ripped off Chakol Girls from Busia with the same margin to book the finals ticket.
