Star-man Injera included in Simbas Repechage squad

Kenya Sevens all time top-scorer Collins Injera has been included in the Kenya Simbas squad for November’s Rugby World Cup Repechage in France.

Kenya Rugby Union said in a statement that Injera and Impala Saracens lock Simon Muniafu have been included in the provincial Simba squad .The duo is expected to spur the fight for positions in the team.

Injera becomes the sixth Kenya 7s players to be included in the Simbas squad.

Others are Dennis Ombachi, Andrew Amonde, Sammy Oliech and Nelson Oyoo – who all joined the Simbas soon after the conclusion of the Gold Cup.

Simbas assistant coach Dominique Habimana believes the inclusion of the duo will boost team morale.

“The inclusion of Injera and all the other Shujaa players will help with the morale because it’s a reunion of the boys and their experience is greatly appreciated.”

“Over the years they have proven their mettle on the sevens circuit and even the local competition, they know how to score and they’re good finishers so we expect them to do the same for the Simbas,”said Habimana.

The players link up together after helping their local clubs in the just concluded national sevens circiut.

“It’s a re-union because they have to work together again and they are catching up according to the good stuff they are doing at their level.”

Habimana added that some players have minor knocks but is optimistic they’ll be fit before the team departs for France.

The Simbas are set to play Canada, Germany and Hong Kong in the round robin Repechage tournament that will see the winner qualify for the remaining spot of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
