Starlets coach Kanyi expects tough test from Uganda
Harambee Starlets head coach Richard Kanyi is confident of beating Uganda Crested Cranes when they lock horns on March 4 in the first leg of 2019 Africa Women Cup of Nation qualifiers at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
In an interview with Citizen Digital, Kanyi said that despite Uganda being a tough team, they will work as a team to deliver good results, adding that the girls have had proper training for the last two weeks.
“It ’s very crucial match for us.This(game against Uganda) is our first hurdle in our bid to qualify for the continental championship set for Ghana next year,”Kanyi said, adding: “We met them last year in a friendly match at Kisumu Stadium and beat them 4-0, so it’s a team we know too well.”
He went on: “Their league has been very competitive for the last two years so I am expecting a very tough match”.
In the 2016 Cecafa women tournament held in Uganda, Starlets beat the host by the same margin to kick off their tournament with a bang only to be defeated 2-1 by eventual champions Tanzania.
The second leg of the match will be held three days later in Kampala where the winner will proceed to the next stage.
The team is currently in camp at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos as they gear for a friendly match against Zambia, away, on March 25, 2018, at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe as part of the team’s preparation for the Uganda meeting.
