Stima coach Babu hails teamwork for amazing run in KPL

Western Stima head coach Salim Babu has attributed his team’s fine form in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) to great team work and good fighting spirit from his charges.

Stima climbed to second place in KPL standings after their 3-1 win over Nzoia FC on Sunday with the Power men now trailing league leaders Tusker FC by a solitary point.

It was Stima’s third win in a row and seventh win of the season having drawn six and lost only a single match.

“This group of players are very hard working and they like enjoying the game. We are proud of what we have achieved so far but this league is a marathon and we have to continue giving our best on each game for us to finish in a strong position,” said Babu.

Meanwhile, Tusker FC winning streak came to an end when they were held to a barren draw by eight-placed AFC Leopards at Kenyatta stadium, Machakos on Sunday.

The Brewers top the league standings with 28 points -eight wins, four draws and two losses-three points ahead of champions Gor Mahia who are fourth with four matches in hand.

Despite going five months without salary, AFC Leopards head coach Casa Bungo has assured fans that he still remains in charge of the team but will be holding crisis talks with the team’s leadership before Christmas to chat the way forward.

“I love these club and I can assure the fans that we are preparing for the Mathare game on Sunday, but before Christmas I will hold talks with the management to find away in which this team can be motivated,” said the Rwandese tactician.

Elsewhere, Bandari FC bounced back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 win over Kisumu All Stars in Kisumu on Saturday to move to position 11 on the log with 25 points.

Dockers midfielder David King’atua has urged his team mates to build on the win in their upcoming games.

“We are a big club with great players but the position we are currently in doesn’t reflect our ability. Therefore, it is very important to take every game like a final,” he said.
