Stima Coach Omino frustrated by Gor draw

Western Stima Head Coach, Henry Omino, expressed his dissatisfaction with Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Gor Mahia during their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) tie, blaming poor officiating as he watched their title ambitions sustain a big hit.

With Stima firmly in the lead after taking a first half lead, a fiercely protested penalty call in favour of Gor changed the landscape of the game. Enock Agwanda converted the spot kick and with the ten minutes to go, Godfrey Walusimbi put K’Ogalo in front with a headed goal. However, a last minute leveler from Bernard Ondiek settled the affair.

“I’m not satisfied with the result because this is a match we should have won. Our plan to get an early goal was going well because we felt we were going to seal the win but it was not to be. I never criticize match officials but whether they like it or not the referee and his assistants really messed us up. The overall performance of the officiating was below par.

“I’m not out of the title. We lost two crucial points so we have to ensure that we take all 12 from the remaining four matches. Tusker are not yet safe and neither are Gor who especially have to thank the referee today for gifting them a point,” Omino, a two-time winner of the coach of the month told Citizen Digital.

His opposite number, Brazilian tactician Jose ‘Ze Maria’ Ferreira denied seeing the incident while warning his charges that they must win all their remaining league fixtures should they stand any chance of pipping leaders Tusker FC to the crown.

“To draw a match like this is very tough especially because we played good game. I’m happy with the way we played but not the result. We have four matches left to play and they (Tusker) have to lose along the way and for us we have to win all the remaining four matches.

“My players are very professional so they know what they have to do and that is train very hard in the coming days. On Sunday we face AFC Leopards and it’s a match we have to win. I didn’t see the penalty incident but when I asked my assistant he told me it was indeed a penalty. I saw our opponents contesting the decision but it’s football and sometimes the referee gets it wrong. We have been victims of poor officiating and not just in this game alone,”

Ze Maria is banking on a sensational late collapse from the Brewers as his side eyes a historic fourth consecutive league title.

First up for K’Ogalo on Sunday is the eternal Mashemeji Derby against the old enemy, Leopards at the same stadium where their title dream was all but buried by the dogged electricity men on Wednesday days after the Green Army went on rampage when Muhoroni Youth stripped them of the KPL Top 8 title at Nyayo.
