Stima dimmed by Ulinzi, KCB demolish Mt. Kenya

Ulinzi Stars survived a scare by soaring Western Stima as they bagged the equalizer in stoppage time at the Afraha Stadium in a 13th round Kenya Premier League face-off that ended in a one all draw.

Paul Ogai’s Stima got off to a dream start after defender Paul Akongo headed in a long throw four minutes from kickoff to the dismay of the home fans, in a half that saw the soldier struggle to create chances despite an additional five minute stoppage time.

Ulinzi firepower upped in the second half as gaffer Dunstan Nyaudo rallied his troops for a point at least, but were kept at bay by a spirited Stima defense as John Njuguna and  Mark Bikokwa had their shots blocked from close range but Enosh Ochieng came to the visitors’ rescue much to the relief of The Don, as he is fondly known.

The shared spoils still have the ‘powermen‘ sixth on the log with 20 points after 13 rounds after blowing their chances of leapfrogging  Bandari and Sofapaka FC to fourth.

Ulinzi’s winless run stretched to six games after being sank by a Sidney Lokale hat-trick against Kariobangi Sharks prior to today’s faceoff and still lie 12th after garnering 14 points from 13 matches.

At the Kenyatta stadium in Machakos, KCB ensured a resurgent Mount Kenya United remain rooted at second from bottom after a stellar 2-0 win.

Bolton Omwenga got the bankers flying by bagging the first goal in the 18th minute as Victor Omondi doubled the lead two minutes after the restart.

The stellar display was enough to secure all the points on offer for the bankers who climbed to tenth on 15 points as Melis Medo’s men endured another dreadful afternoon despite their eye-catching exploits in the last two outings as their eight loss of the season left them glued second from bottom on nine points from 13 matches.

In the third and final showdown of the day, misfiring Sony Sugar blew their chances of ascending to fifth as they were held to a barren draw by struggling Chemelil Sugar at the Green Stadium of Awendo.

The result which extended the visitors winless streak to five games leaves them fourth from bottom on 10 points, after 12 games with Patrick Odhiambo’s troops lying ninth on 15 points after 13 rounds.
