Stima disarm Police in Kisumu

Kenya Police FC succumbed to their first defeat of the season losing 1-2 to well-drilled Western Stima at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

In a game characterized by a cracking start, it was Stima who came off the blocks faster, scoring in stoppage time of the first half through Kevin Okoth but the alert policemen replied a minute later through James Ntiga.

The log leaders Stima were however determined, clinching the winning goal in the 87th minute.

Stima started the match with intent, launching numerous attacks but Charles Omondi coached Police managed to keep them at bay for long spells largely through the superb reflexes of goalie Anthony Obonyo.

In the added minutes of the first half, Okoth broke the deadlock, when he fired from outside the box.

In the second half, Police absorbed the pressure for long spells amidst the barrage of attacks but caved in when James Ogada let a wide shot through the police defenders which swiftly landed in Anthony Obonyo’s net.

Police coach, Charles Omondi, despite the loss, said he was satisfied with the outcome, adding that his boys will remain focused on the upcoming matches.

“It was fair match. We tried our best but luck was not on our side,” he said. “That’s football. We will remain focused on the coming matches,” he said in a post match interview.

On the other hand, Stima coach, Richard Mukumbi, applauded his players for the good performance, promising to fight tooth and nail to book a slot in the Kenya Premier League.

“We want to maintain our momentum. The aim is to get back to the Premier League, not breaking records,” the Ugandan said.
