Stima rally to deny Gor chance to go top

Western Stima rallied to hold Gor Mahia FC in a 1-1 draw at the Kasarani Stadium as the champions spurned the chance to go top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings on Wednesday.

Gor’s opener came from an unlikely source as Ernest Wendo beat goalkeeper Samwel Odhiambo with a right-foot shot but the Vincent Odongo hauled the visitors level in the second half with a cracking long range effort.

The result ensured Bandari FC ended round 14 sitting on top of pile on 25 points with Gor two points adrift in second, leading third-placed Mathare United only on goal difference.

 

The opening 20 minutes were riddled with misplaced passes as both sides struggled to find early rhythm but Gor found the next gear as they staged a series of dangerous attacks with Geoffrey Ochieng’ and Dennis Oliech almost netting an opener in the 4th and 11th minute respectively.

Dennis Oliech failed to make it double for K’ogalo in the 28th minute In a one on one situation after his Strike soared way above the cross bar.

Gor looked more potent up-front for the satrting minutes of second half with the duo of Jacques Tuyisenge and Dennis Oliech proving to be a menace for the Western stima defence.

Spurred by Wendo’s goal, Stima were determined to take the lead with the a series of dangerous attacks on Gor Mahia.

Western Stima’s Otieno Patrick would have made the scores 2-1 in the favour of Stima in the 64th minute but his shot canoed off the post.
