Stimas Omalla wants to emulate Olunga

Western Stima striker Benson Omalla is hoping to emulate Harambee stars striking sensation Michael Olunga who plays for Kashiwa Reysol in Japan.

Omalla, a student of Kisumu Day High School was named the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Player of the Month for December 2019 having scored five goals and also becoming the first Western Stima player to ever score a hat trick in a league match.

“I admire many strikers in Kenyan football, led by the likes of Dennis Oliech, but my favourite is Michael Olunga, his skills, his movement with the ball and his timing is something I love watching frequently and I try to emulate that on the pitch, ”Said Omalla.

The Form Four student also became the youngest player to ever win the award and is eyeing the golden boot in this season’s KPL having already scored seven goals.

“It’s been very hard balancing school and playing for the team, but when I get the chance to play like the home games during the weekend and weekdays, I always give my best to the team.

I want to try and score as many goals for Stima as possible to help them finish in better position in the league and if all goes well fight for the golden boot,” added youngster.

Stima head coach Salim Babu hailed Omalla’s discipline and hard-work promising to nature his talent to become one of the finest strikers in the country.

“With his tight schedule, the boy has always remained focused and discipline. He is a keen listener and always following instructions, we as the technical bench are determined to bring the best out of him,” Babu told Citizen Digital.

Stima are currently 7th on the standings with 32 points from 20 games and will next play against Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday at the Moi stadium in Kisumu.
