Storms sweep Strathmore to the trenches, sail to semis playoffs

Storms women basketball team are through to the semi-final playoffs of the Kenya Basketball League (KBF) Premier League after crushing Strathmore 66-62 in Game Three of the quarter-finals staged at Nyayo Gymnasium in Nairobi on Saturday.

Strathmore dominated the first half of the match while Storms took charge of the second half.

Strathmore started off well narrowly winning the first quarter 16-15 and second quarter 14-11.

However things changed in the second half as Storms claimed a 17-14 win in the third quarter before winding up in style in the last quarter with a 23-18 margin to cruise to the semis.

At Nyayo Gymnasium, it was hammer and tongs as the two sides tussled it out fiercely with an eye on the semis.

So intense was the battle as action swerved from end to end serving the hundreds of fans in attendance with some entertaining game.

The two went for Game Three having won one apiece in the first two games staged at the same venue last weekend.

Strathmore had won Game One 42-39 while Storms carried the day in Game Two 70-54.

In the regular league Strathmore finished third with 37 points while Storms finished sixth with 34 points.

Storms head coach Abel Nson could not hide his joy saying the team gelled, adding that he’s very happy to be in the semis.

“We had a very good solid game, the match was difficult but at the end of the day we’re excited  to face KPA again in the semis after doing so last year,” Nson said.

Storms will either face Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in the semis or Eagle Wings while defending champions Equity Bank will be meeting Dynamites of the University of Nairobi.
