Strathmore Blades eyeing Ulinzi scalp

Strathmore Blades head coach Tony Ochieng’ is relishing the challenge posed by Ulinzi ahead of their weekend showdown at USIU grounds.

Blades will be seeking their second successive league win but face a formidable side that has recruited heavily to add stars into their roster.

Ochieng’s men won their 65-49 in their opener against Lakeside last weekend while Ulinzi defeated the same opposition 61-32 and also won 84-42 against Trailblazers in their first two league games.

“We are going to approach the match tactically, having in mind Ulinzi have brought in lots of new energy but we will work with what we have to overcome them. We brought in some two, three players so hopefully we can stop me,” Ochieng’ said.

The tactician lauded the team’s fitness levels but said they will miss the services Cliff Alela who travelled out of the country.

Blades skipper George Okoth admitted their approach has been somewhat too defensive and vowed to adopt a more offensive approach against Ulinzi.

“We are going to make defence more solid but at the same time be more efficient in attack so that we can have higher ratio of executing successful offenses, he said.

On the other hand, Thunder will look to rectify the mistakes that cost them during their 51-58 loss to Umoja in the previous round as they seek to bounce back to winning ways against World Hope.

“We have new players and therefore we are going to work on cohesion to make the team look one,” Thunder head coach Abel Nson told Citizen Digital.

In another encounter Trailblazers and KCA University will be eyeing their first wins of the season when they clash on Saturday.

Defending champions KPA will not be in action this weekend after postponing their weekend fixtures against Umoja and Cooperative Bank.
