Strathmore target KPA scalp, USIU host Lakeside

Strathmore Ladies are set to spar KPA on a Kenya Basketball Federation match fixture slated for Saturday at the Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium in Nairobi.

The Madaraka based side will be eying on returning to winning ways after Equity Hawks ended their unbeaten run, whipping them 54-56 on Sunday (9).

Strathmore head coach Ronnie Owino was equally contended after trailing their first game to a stronger side and he is resolute to grace this year’s finals by winning forthcoming matches.

“Despite having inexperienced players my main aim is to set foot in the final this year; that will be my joy because I believe we have the potential to do so, but now I want to focus on getting good results in the coming matches to realize the dream”.

Owino’s side is now placed second, with the bankers topping the log with 19 points after playing 10 matches, tallying with Strathmore who are belittled by deficit in baskets points.

KPA who are currently bottom-placed after playing lesser matches with 9 points after gracing 5 games in this first-leg, will be aiming to win this weekend’s match in order to better their place in the league.

Conversely, this weekend will witness varsity derby as USIU poise the field against UON Dynamites on the same venue.

The Dynamites, who are the newbie in the league, will be keying on bouncing back after Equity hawks routed them 57-35 in the last match in which they managed to hold the reigning champions on a 12-12 draw in the first period.

UON head coach, Juma kent is definite that his team will register better results in their upcoming matches.

“Considering that we are new in the league, and I was able to hold Equity hawks in the first round shows that my team is slowly catching up with the league’s environment I am eyeing on winning the next match against USIU,” said Kent

On other matches Zetech will Battle Eagle Wings.

Elsewhere, Classic League defending champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) head coach Sammy Kiki is optimistic that his side will emerge winners when they face World Hope in their last first leg match at Nyayo Gymnasium on Saturday.

KPA, who are third on the log with 17 points after playing 10 matches, will be meeting World Hope who are ninth on the log with 12 points.

“I respect World Hope but we will go out on them; we have been working on our team chemistry, offensively and I hope we Weill play together as a team to make things easier,” Kiki Said.

The Dockers hammered Lakeside 60-59 in their last league match at Kisumu and are hoping to build on that and pick up from where they left.

“We are in good shape to pick the win tomorrow and finish the first league in a good way,” KPA assistant coach/ team captain Samuel Ocholla said.

KPA will be missing Victor Odendo who has been out of action for a month now due to injury but all others are in good form.
