Striker Kepha Aswani parts ways with AFC Leopards

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side and local giants AFC Leopards have ended the speculation over the future of Kepha Aswani by announcing on Thursday the striker has left the club by mutual consent.

Aswani – who finished second runners-up in the race for the 2016 KPL Golden Boot – was left on the fringes towards end of the previous campaign following allegations of indiscipline with Leopards Secretary General Oscar Igaida now confirming the striker is on his way out.

According to Igaida, Leopards Head Coach Stewart Hall has indicated Aswani is not part of his future plans at the Den, giving the executive committee the green light to allow their 2016 top scorer to leave.

“We still had one year left on his contract but the Coach decided against keeping him. We also felt it waqs best to let him go instead of holding on to him and then having him sidelined on the bench during the coming season,” Igaida told Citizen Digital.

Aswani was among players who were suspended last season by the club’s executive committee due to what they termed gross indiscipline.

The arrival of Ghanaian striker Gilbert Fiamenho who is set to begin training with the club on Friday could have spelled the end of Aswani, given Leopards already have former Gor Mahia FC and Simba SC striker Paul Mungai Kiongera in their arsenal.

“We have enough strikers putting in mind that we have signed new strikers whom we will be officially unveiling next week,” Igaida stated.

The club is yet to disclose the shirt number that will be worn by Fiamenho – whom they will officially unveil next week with the striker having landed on Wednesday.

Ingwe had captured their signing in August last year but was not permitted to play due to paper work.

The current squad will hold a short-lived preseason tour of Western Kenya in late January before later on heading to either Embu or Meru Counties for several friendlies.
