Struggling Chemelil go shopping to save season

In a bid to turn a corner from their recent travails, Chemelil Sugar have roped up eight players from various clubs across the Kenya Premier League (KPL), and the National Super League (NSL) and the third tier.

The club has given opportunities to their young defenders Kevin Okoth Ouko and Nelson Ochieng Wesonga to sew up its porous backline by tying them to four-year contracts.

The duo joins the team from its youth ranks and their addition will help mend their defense that has shipped nineteen goals so far this season.

Young goalkeeper Benard Otieno Onunga will bolster the club’s goalkeeping department after inking a three year contract.

The outfit has announced the arrival of veteran midfielder Gilbert Opanja Wangulu from Bungoma Super Stars on a two year contract deal.  Wangulu will be joined in the midfield by former Nairobi City Stars ace Adams Usamba Simbili who has agreed to stay with the Chemelil Sports Complex-based side for the next two seasons.

The club has pounced on the availability of versatile midfielder Francis Ochollah Oganga to secure his services even though the details of his contract were not disclosed.

Its attacking quarter that has been snipe less in the first half of the season will benefit from the arrival of forwards Silas Aluvisia and versatile midfielder Justine Monda Moreri from Kenafric and Shabana respectively.

The two have agreed to play for the outfit after signing one-year contracts. The former who previously played for Tusker FC, Western Stima, Sony Sugar and Muhoroni Youth, had been training with the club before being offered a contract.

Head coach Charles Odera is optimistic of making more signings before the end of the transfer window.

Elsewhere after losing key players like Saad Musa, Dennis Odhiambo and Eugene Mukangula Thika will recruit ten players with many of those thought to be from Meru and Thika were the club conducted trials recently.

The ten new players will be four defenders, three strikers, and three midfielders.

The club is currently ranked 16th and further signings will be an attempt avoid a relegation fight like it was the case last season where it had to overcome Ushuru FC in a two legged play-off to stay afloat.

Elsewhere Mathare United have announced the arrival of league stalwart James Situma from Kakamega Homeboyz. The former Tusker FC skipper joins the Slum Boys in a two-year contact.
