Struggling Coast Stima attribute patchy run to lack of finances

Lack of finances is the main reason behind poor results by National Super League side Coast Stima, head coach Hussein Madaga has said.

Speaking after leading his side to a barren draw against Kisumu Allstars in Mombasa, Madaga appreciated the few players who are still ‘sacrificing’ for the team without receiving any penny since the start of the season.

“Our main problem is sponsorship because we have good talents but playing while hungry is impossible,” lamented Madaga.

The Mombasa based side who are fourth on the log had only 14 players in their last two matches, contrary to the 18 required for match day, collecting two points in the assignments, as some players boycott training and matches due to lack of funds.

“Even fare for players to turn up for training is a challenge, that is why we have less players for a match day,” he explained. “We have our next assignment against Mt. Kenya on Sunday in Nairobi but we are not sure if we will be able to travel.”

Coast Stima was one of the three affected teams in the national leagues after state corporation Kenya Power withdrew their sponsorship due to Covid-19.

Beside Coast Stima, NSL side Nairobi Stima and FKF Premier League club Western Stima, have also been affected by the withdrawal of the sponsorship.
