Struggling Gor seek new revenue-raising models

Financial constraints at Gor Mahia club have pushed the club’s executive committee to resort to possible new money-making ventures as a mechanism of rescuing the club from the jaws of collapse.

In a communiqué signed by club chairman Ambrose Rachier, the financial constraints that have engulfed the club in the past and their current dire situation have forced them to adopt to modules used by some of the most successful clubs to ensure they get back to financial stability.

According to Rachier, the main source of funds shall primarily be the club members, supporters and other well-wishers.

The club is also planning to have a vehicle into which members shall be invited to invest with members expected to have a stake and get returns from.

Gor has in the past partnered with a bread manufacturing company but the deal never lasted after allegations of the bread company making changes in pricing without further agreement with the club.

Despite having a betting firm shirt sponsor, Gor is still struggling financially with players going without salaries and allowances.

In the communique, the club its members and supporters to deposit their support on Safaricom Paybill number 4025683, Account number Gor Mahia F.C whose signatories will be the nominees of the members and who must be accountable.

Team manager Jolawi Obondo has also sent the same plea to Gor fans via a video in Luo language urging them to step in and support the record giants.

‘’We are down financially and I wish to urge our loyal fans to come out and support the clubs. The boys need to be happy and it is through your support that we can achieve this,’’ said Jolawi.

With the high possibility of losing their dominance of representing the country at the CAF Champions League, Gor are more focused on the FKF Cup finals slated for Sunday at Ruaraka grounds pitting them against their arch rivals AFC Leopards.

A win will give them the sole CAF Confederations ticket. Their consistent winning form has started experiencing hiccups after an eight match win run was ended by Western Stima at the weekend, losing 2-1.

Initially Gor depended on gate collections bar the sponsors’ money but ever since the Covid-19 pandemic, fans have kept away from the stadium, making an already dicey situation worse.
