Mathare United women head coach Mary Odhiambo is positive that her girls will be able to perform to expectation to evade the relegation axe despite losing a number of her first team players to other clubs in the mid-season break.

The club lost their two central midfielders Teresia Lundu who has since signed for Gaspo Women, and Lilian Ngina to Ulinzi Starlets, while left back Lucy Stella made a move to Kibera Girls, as left winger Josphine Nana headed to Spedag Ladies.

“No coach is happy to lose players; it is a challenge to us because they were key players, we now have to push ourselves with the players we have but we will feel their absence,” remarked Odhiambo.

Mathare has not had quite a pleasing performance since the campaign began losing 11 matches out of 15 games so far played, winning two and drawing a similar number to garner eight points, two clear of Kayole and three ahead of basement side Spedag.

“When we started the league we had our objectives of finishing in the top 10 or even in the top five so we are not happy being at the bottom. I am going to push players for us to be able to achieve the objectives that we had set for at the beginning,” she told Citizen Digital.

The only piece of good news in the team is that centre back Lucy Akoth has been selected for the provisional Harambee Starlets squad preparing for the 2020 Olympic qualifier slated for August 28 this year.

Kayole Starlets and Mathare United drew 1-1 in a bottom -of- the- table Kenya Women Premier League clash at the Camp Toyoyo grounds on Saturday.
