Super sub Wanga bags a brace as Homeboyz sink Stima

Super sub Allan Wanga broke the hearts of Western Stima with two late goals to help Kakamega Homeboyz charge from behind to beat Western Stima 3-2 in an enthralling FKF Premier League match held Saturday afternoon at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

In other matches, Nzoia Sugar beat KCB  2-1 at Sudi Stadium while City Stars beat Zoo Kericho by a similar scoreline as Bidco were also 2-1 winners over Mathare United.

In Kisumu it was anyone’s game, both sides gave as much as they received but it was Homeboyz who took their last chances courtesy of Wanga who came off the bench with 30 minutes left to seal the win.

It was a cruel heart break to Stima and their new head coach Juma Abdallah who took the reins on Thursday and had been hopeful of sealing a win in his first game in charge.

Stima have made far-reaching changes after the match-fixing scandal sacking 13 players and making a change in the technical bench with Juma, a veteran coach, who has handled amongst others Thika United and KCB FC being the new man in the dugout.

It was Sylvester Owino who put Homeboyz ahead in the 26th minute tapping home an assist from Godfrey Oputi from a deadball situation but Stima quickly clawed back three minutes later, veteran Kennedy  Otieno Ágogo’ drawing them level from a swift counter attack before  Isaac Mweru gave the homeside a 2-1 advantage  in the 31st minute capitalising on poor goalkeeping.

Chances came thick and fast in either side of the half, Baron Oketch left frustrated four minutes to the break after Homeboyz defensive midfielder Stephen Etwang denying with a solid defensive work.

On the opposite end, Martin Mpuga calmed Stima nerves when he cleared a goal-bound  shot from the line in the 58th minute before Wanga came on to steal the victory.

“I thank God and the players for the work. They came from behind to equalise. They showed a fighting spirit. In the first half we were slow but in the second half we changed tactics and a few things which contributed to our win,”Homeboyz coach Nicholas Muyoti said after the match while also giving a hint that dangerman Wanga could start the next game should he be sharp in training.

However his opposite number Juma was left fuming at the officiating. “The referees offended us. The teams played well but the officiating is an issue. We played well but we should have won,” he said, adding that the aim is to get a win against City Stars in their midweek fixture.
