Table the right offer and youll have Kahata, Gor tells Kerr

Gor Mahia is willing to let go of play-maker Francis Kahata and defensive stalwart Philemon Otieno “if the right offer comes along”.

Speculation is rife that Gor’s immediate former head coach Dylan Kerr who completed a move to South Africa side Black Leopards last evening has earmarked the duo as his first transfer targets.

Ronald Ngala, club assistant secretary general said:  “That’s very normal with our former coaches (trying to sign our players). It’s just like what happened when Ze Maria left and recommended to Tirana KF to sign Musa Mohammed and Muguna.

“It’s understandable that when a coach has had a successful season with the team he will want to take the best players with him, but we are yet to get official communication from them,” said Ngala .

Kahata’s impressive form with K’Ogalo has made him the object of great admiration attracting the interest of among others Tanzania giants Simba SC, and Ngala opines they won’s stand in the way of a move if a sweetened offer is on the cards.

“The player (Kahata) has had a great season. He is a hot property in the market and when the right offer comes we won’t stand on his way.

“Kahata has a contract with Gor Mahia until June next year and as long as the right procedure is followed to acquire the play, we are ready to listen to the offers,”he added.

The 17-time Kenya Premier League champions are yet to replace the departed Kerr; but Ngala says the club is not in hurry to find a replacement.

“We have not made any decision in regards to appointing a new coach. Zico is in charge of the team and when we feel he needs someone to assist him we will definitely let our fans know.”

The Kenyan champions will face Malawi side Nyasa Big Bullets in the preliminary round of the 2018-19 Champions League to be played on  November 28  before the return leg a week later with the winner   of the two leg encounter facing either Lobi Stars of Nigeria or UMS de Loum of Cameroon for a spot in the lucrative group stage.

Thereafter the champions will play Kariobangi Sharks in the season’s curtain raiser a week before starting their league title defence on December 8 against Bandari at the Mbaraki Sports Club.

“We are putting up our final plans for the new season and that’s should be done by today or tomorrow .It has to be a detailed plan because we are starting the season with a very heavy schedule and we can’t take anything for granted ,” Ngala concluded.
