Tanzania hold Libya to leave Kenya top of Cecafa Group A

Libya and Tanzania battled to a dour 0-0 draw at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos to leave Kenya top of Group A on Day One of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.

Kenya had assumed the lead earlier on Sunday following their 2-0 win over Rwanda thanks to first half goals from Masoud Juma and Duncan Otieno at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Elias Maguri almost blasted Tanzania into a second minute lead but his fierce shot swerved just off target.

Cecafa guests Libya responded on the other end when Zachary Afrai beat his markers to race clear on goal but goalkeeper Aisha Manula got off his lines to thwart his run.

It was a frantic opening half with both sides failing to capitalise on some sloppy defending but it was Tanzania who went into the breather feeling luckier having survived a barrage of Libyan attacks.

Libya will play Kenya in their second match on Tuesday as Zanzibar squares it out with Rwanda who lost their opener.

Tanzania Starting XI: Aishi Manula, Erasto Nyoni, Gadiel Michael Mbaga, Kennedy Wilson Juma, Kelvin Yondani Patrick, Abdallah Hamisi, Ramadhan Kichuya, Ibrahim Ajib Migomba, Elias Maguri, Mbaraka Abeid Yusuph and Mzamiru Yassin,

Substitutes: Peter Manyika, Boniface Maganga, Mohamed Hussei, Jonas Mkud, Raphael Daudi Loth,Daniel Lyanga, Abdul Hilal, Yahya Zayd, Yohana Mkomola and Aman Peter Kyata
