Team Kenya training for World Cross to set off Monday
Team Kenya training for the 2017 IAAF World Cross in Kampala, Uganda will set off in earnest on Monday as selected athletes started trickling in to their base at St. Mark’s Teacher Training College in Embu.
By Thursday, only 17 runners in the provisional squad had reported to camp with the contingent from Kenya Police and Kenya Prisons yet to report by the time of going to press.
Head Coach Juma Ndiwa said he expected to have the full squad assembled by Thursday evening having watched over light training drills to help those already in camp shed off fatigue from last weekend’s Nationals in Nairobi.
“The team is looking good and the rest have informed me that they are on their way here. My hope is by Saturday they will all be here. Mostly it’s the senior men who are yet to arrive but they haven’t missed much because we’ve done only one session,” Ndiwa told Citizen Digital.
He said he hopes to see the squad embrace team work and an adherence to training routines.
The squad will camp at the Kigali camp until March 23, just three days before the biennial championships kick off.
