Police lobbed teargas canisters at the whistle as aggrieved AFC Leopards resorted to hooliganism after watching in agony as their beloved club succumbed to yet another humiliating defeat, losing 0-1 to Ulinzi Stars at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday.

Daniel Waweru scored the all-important goal for the soldiers in the third minute that ensured Ingwe will remain domiciled in the relegation red-zone for at least another 10 days.

The play however had to be stopped briefly a few minutes later as Waweru had to be attended to after suffering a concussion.

Ingwe almost levelled scores in the 15th minute after Eugene Mukangula swung in a left-footed free-kick from the edge of the box but the Ulinzi defence was first to react much to the relief of goalkeeper James Saruni.

Dunstan Nyaudo’s men then survived a scare in the 21st minute after a number of dangerous crosses were swung across the face of the Saruni-manned goal.

Leopards upped the tempo after the break as Rwandese head coach Cassa ‘Pep’ Mbungo rallied his troops for a point, at least, since taking over the helm early this month, but it was not to be.

The defeat left the limping Leopards on position 17 out of the 18-team table on a paltry 10 points.
