Telkom Kenya will be hoping to set off their mood festive season in joyous fashion when they take on University of Nairobi over the weekend in a match that could mark their Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Premier League crowning moment.

A win for champions Telkom against the Varsity side will see them build an unassailable lead at the top of the women’s KHU league and thus claim a 20th title.

The match will pits two sides who are enjoying contrasting fortunes this term; while Telkom are undefeated, UON have failed to win any of their last 16 matches and come into the clash on the back of a 6-0 humbling at the hands of Strathmore University.

Despite the gulf in class between the two sides, Telkom Head Coach Jos Openda says they will not be taking anything for granted and will treat their opposition as peers.

“We will be approaching this match as another because we as Telkom we always go for a win. My players are in good shape mentally and physically since we do not have any room for complacency,” Openda said.

With four matches left before curtains fall on the 2017/18 season, Telkom currently lead the log with 48 points, 12 ahead of second-placed Strathmore University who face Sliders on Saturday.

After announcing their return to winning ways by thrashing TUK 7-0 in their last match, men’s league leaders Kenya Police will be up against Sikh Union Nairobi who are desperate to bounce back after registering back to back losses.

Kenya College of Accountancy (KCAU) will be striving to pull away from the relegation zone but face an uphill task as they have to overcome third-placed Green Sharks who have won four of their last five matches.

Defending champions Strathmore University Gladiators will play Chase Sailors on Saturday before taking on Nakuru Sunday.
