Telkom to launch Africa title defence against Desert Queens

Kenya Hockey Union league champions Telkom will kick off their Africa Cup for Club Championships title defence against Yobe Desert Queens of Nigeria this Saturday, the same day the competition gets underway in Accra, Ghana.

The champions will then have a date with Strathmore University on Sunday in what will be an-all Kenyan affair before taking on KADA Queens also from Nigeria a day later.

With Tuesday being a rest day, Telkom will resume on Wednesday as they tackle hosts GRA women before winding up their preliminary matches with a tie against Police Club of Ghana on Thursday with the finals slated for January 27 at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.

The two women clubs are the only Kenya representative in the continental cchampionship after the men clubs- Strathmore Univeristy Gladiators and Butali Warriors pulled out owing to financial constraints.

The Jos-Openda led side will be in the hunt for a fifth consecutive crown as well as a record 10th title in which they won last year by beating Ghana Revenue Authority 2-0 in the finals played at Nairobi.
