Telkoms dream for a 10th crown tumbles in Accra

The dream of champions Telkom of winning a sixth consecutive title and a 10thAfrican Cub for Club Championship crown tumbled in cruel fashion on Saturday afternoon in Accra, Ghana, where they fell 1-0 to host club Ghana Revenue Authority in the final.

The Kenyan Queens had come agonizingly close, raising hopes high for their fans back home but lost it narrowly and in the cruelest of ways.

The loss saw the dominance of Telkom halted, while for GRA, it was a sweet afternoon as they laid their hands on their first continental trophy.

The finals which were held at the Theodosiah Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra were a repeat of the 2017 showdown held in Kenya where then hosts Telkom went on to beat GRA 2-0 as they bagged their ninth title.

The match, like in the group stage, proved to be a close encounter that was headed for penalties only for GRA’s Roberta Safoa to score with four minutes left on the clock.

This victory was a revenge on Telkom which beat GRA by a similar margin in the group stage match. With the goal coming late, late in the game, Telkom was left with little to do, settling for silver
