- The former Leopards and Sofapaka coach has instead said that it is still too early to predict who would bag the gong and would instead take one game at a time.
Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano will not be carried away by title-talk despite bouncing to the summit of the Kenyan Premier League after battling AFC Leopards to a barren draw at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday.
The former Leopards and Sofapaka coach has instead said that it is still too early to predict who would bag the gong and would instead take one game at a time.
“In a game you expect to win and if things get tight you settle for a draw instead. Tusker is on the right track when you compare with many previous years, we are okay,” he said.
We cannot start speculating on the title race now for we are only on match day 14, the g tape is still way too far away.”
Tusker lead the 17-team log on 28 points only one ahead of closest challengers Western Stima and third-placed Kakamega Homeboyz after round 14.
Champions Gor Mahia sit fourth, three points behind leaders Tusker with four matches in hand.
The league leaders who are under the tutelage of the ‘Lion’ have managed the highest win of eight, four draws and with only two losses.
Meanwhile, Leopards head coach Casa Mbungo is ruing the unavailability of three players – Tresor Ndikumana ,Whyvonne Isuza and John-Mark Makwata – for Ingwe’s goal drought.
The Burundian midfield powerhouse Ndikumana was released by the club after demanding a release letter due to lack of salary payment for more than three months while Isuza has been away with Harambee Stars in the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Kampala where the Kenyan team finished third.
John-Mark Makwata did not show up in the Sunday clash with Tusker, a match that exposed Leopards underbelly moreso in the attack
“When you see John (Makwata),Isuza (Wyvonne), when you see Trezo (Tresor Ndikumana) not in the team yet they are the players who have scored many goals for the club it defines that we don’t have a typical striker although our only option Hansel (Ochieng) tried much he could .
We have played two matches (against KCB and Tusker) and registered a barren draw and that explains a lot,” the soft spoken Rwandan coach, added.
