Thika Queens crowned KWPL champions

Thika Queens are the new champions of the Kenya Women Premier League title after 3-0 win over Gaspo Women in the playoff final at ASK Showgrounds in Nakuru.

Thika won the league unbeaten after winning all their games. They won Zone A with 42 points followed by Gaspo with 29 points.

They crushed Nakuru West Queens 4-1 in the playoff semis and went on to dominate the final, lifting their third title after having won it in 2015 and 2016.

Victory ended Vihiga Queens’ three-year hold of the crown after they were shocked by Gaspo who won 5-4 via shootout after their semis clash had ended 1-1 in regular time.

Achieng attributed the win to team work.

“I am feeling good and proud of my girls. It was all about team work and discipline and now looking forward to continue with our unbeaten record next season,” she said.

Thika Queens superstar who also plays for national team Harambe Stars Dogo Mwanalima Jereko won both top scorer and Most Valuable Player awards.

She scored 21 goals throughout the season and she looks forward to play outside the country.

“It was our target to clinch the title and I am proud of that. I am now looking forward to play professionally out of the country,” she said.
