Thika Queens effortlessly accelerating towards WPL title

Thika Queens maintained their lead at the top of the Kenya Women’s Premier League (KWPL) in round 12, shining most in the after 10 matches played across different venues.

The former champions collected maximum points across in their Saturday and Sunday fixtures, with an emphatic 7 -1 victory over hosts Kisumu All Starlets at the Moi Stadium Kisumu and a 1 – 0 win over third placed Eldoret Falcons in a top-of-the-table clash at the University of Eldoret.

Thika remain unbeaten after nine matches with 27 points, three ahead of closest rivals Vihiga Queens, having played the same number of matches.

Thika coach Chrisantus Otsieno attributes their unbeaten run so far to players’ commitment and determination.

“Football is a game that is played on the pitch and I would like to keep it that way, keeping winning, and winning.”

Reigning champions Vihiga Queens bagged all six points too in their games, against Mombasa Olympic in a seven-goal thriller (7-1) at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Saturday.

Against Spedag in the same venue on Sunday, Alex Alumira’s charges won with a solitary goal.

In other results, Vihiga Leeds piled more misery on Baringo Starlets who are firmly rooted at the bottom of the league with no points, in a 4 -1 victory at the Eldamaravine Stadium on Saturday as their relegation counterparts Mombasa Olympic with only one win this season, got dispatched by Wadaida 2–0 at the Mbaraki Sports Club.
