Thika Queens sign Harambee Starlets defender Shikobe

Kenyan Women Premier League (KWPL) side Thika Queens have signed Harambee Starlets skipper Dorcas Shikobe to bolster their squad ahead of the soon-to-begin season.

Shikobe, an experienced defender, joins the Queens from Oserian Ladies and is expected to help tighten the team’s defence.

In an interview with Citizen Digital,  Queens chairman Fredrick Chege expressed his confidence that Shikobe will be a valuable addition to the side.

“Shikobe is one of the best defenders in our league right now and that’s why I decided to sign her. As a club we only needed to bolster the defence department…other departments are okay and that’s why we went for her because she is mature and has enough experience.”

Shikobe was one of the players rumoured to be on their way to Tanzanian side Yanga Princess before the deal failed to materialise.

“The league was due to start on November 28, according to the earlier fixtures released by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) but due to the need to meet the Covid-19 guidelines, kickoff has been pushed postponed indefinitely.

“I think there are more measures to comply with, going into the new season, like testing each player for Covid-19 and ensuring other protocols are followed. All in all I am ready, my team has been in training, and in good shape, and I am optimistic of clinching the title next season,” said Chege.

Thika Queens finished third last term, behind champions Vihiga Queens and Gaspo.
