Thika, Ushuru KPL promotion play-off date postponed

Thika, Ushuru KPL promotion play-off date postponed

The promotion playoff clash between Thika United and Ushuru FC has been postponed from December 2 and 6 to December 10 and 13.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) made the announcement on Friday following consultations with the Kenyan Premier League Limited.

A source privy to Citizen Digital said the KPL management has asked Thika to honour the match despite earlier indications that a playoff had not been part of promotion/relegation criteria for the 2017 season.

Thika head coach Nicholas Muyoti had insisted his side will only resume camp after the KPL season concluded on November 18 if the league management advised them to do so.

“We act as the management directs after KPL’s decision. Players thought the season was over and had shifted minds to 2018 season, but if we have to clear another hurdle in Ushuru then we will fight,” the former Harambee Stars captain said at the time.

Thika finished 16th on the KPL log, escaping straight relegation but will put their top flight status on the line against Ushuru who missed an automatic promotion place when they finished third in the National Super League (NSL).

His Ushuru counterpart Ken Kenyatta is positive his charges are KPL quality and will fight to earn their place.

“We have sincerely put a good fight this season and we deserve our place in premier league. The players know and they want it want it more than I do,” Kenyatta underscored.
