Thiongo keen on Leopards title pursuit

AFC Leopards winger Peter Thiong’o has said the team is unstoppable on its day and challenged his teammates to step up in their pursuit for the club’s first FKF Premier League title in over two decades.

Leopards, the country’s second most successful club, last won a top-flight league title in 1998 and Thiong’o believes the current squad has the quality to end that drought.

The club’s chairman Dan Shikanda promised to buy a house for each player if they delivered the league at the end of the season, and Thiong’o says they can use that pledge as fuel for their ambition.

“We owe a lot to this team and with the squad we have we feel this our season. We must give our best on the pitch before we start thinking about the houses promised,” he said.

The former Kakamega Homeboyz player says he hopes to see the quick resumption of sports activities as as possible in order to have sporting conclusion to the current season.

“A lot is at stake because first for the players this is a job and they may not be able to feed their families soon if this continues. We have sponsors as well who have threatened to pull out if football does not resume.

“We understand the measures have been put in place to curb the spread of the virus, but I request the government to reconsider allowing sports to continue. Much has been done to ensure caution is prioritized and that no player is in danger of contracting the virus,” he stated.

Leopards are enjoying one of their best league starts in years and sit third on the standings with 29 points. They can go dislodge KCB FC in second if they win their two games in hand and will remain only a point behind leaders Tusker FC who are on 36.
