This is ‘epic’, Starlets coach Ouma in war-cry ahead of Tanzania clash

Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma has termed his team’s clash with holders Tanzania this afternoon in the ongoing Cecafa Women Championship as ‘epic duel’.

The two sides cross swords this evening from 5pm at the Nyamirambo Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda and Ouma wants his charges to play with freedom and express themselves freely as they chase for their first three points in the tourney.

In an interview with Citizen Digital, the soft-spoken coach said: “We have to make a few changes in the squad. It is very important that I analyze my team and the mood in camp ahead of the second game. The players that we brought in have worked very well.

“As much as we are changing a few players, our game plan and what we are looking to do in today’s game remains the same,” Ouma said.

Vihiga Queens defender Vivian Nasaka will be coming in for Wendy Achieng to tighten things at the back. Eldoret Falcons Ruth Ingosi will take the place of Cheris Avilia in midfield as clinical striker Esse Akida will be relied upon on the attacking front to bag the goals for the David Ouma coached Starlets.

Ouma further noted that he will remain faithful to his tactics against Twiga Stars and hopes that his players will assert their style of play more on the opponents and capitalise on their goal scoring opportunities.

“Against Uganda, we had good moments in our build- up play and maintained that perspective of our game. However, we lacked the efficiency to kill the game. Today, we have to be very effective and efficient in front of Tanzania’s goal and make most of the chances we create. The defensive unit has to be rock solid and alert not to allow the opponent close to our goal. I believe my players will be able to bounce back from the disappointing result against Uganda,” Ouma added.

The tie is a repeat of the 2016 final which Kenya narrowly lost 2-1 to Tanzania.
