Three-star Gor stop Homeboyz to go 14 clear

Belligerent Gor Mahia continued their emphatic march towards an unprecedented 17th Kenya Premier League (KPL) title with a 3-1 win over Kakamega Homeboyz in a match staged at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Monday afternoon.

The win, moved the defending champions 14 points clear of second-placed Bandari with two games in hand.

Burundian Francis Mustapha struck the opening in the 32nd minute following poor defending by Homeboyz, before  Innocent Wafula made it 2-0  four minutes later.

Experienced Kevin ‘Ade’ Omondi scored in the death to seal a the comfortable three points, at a rain-soaked Moi Stadium.

In the second half, Homeboyz came back stronger and they halved the deficit in the 72nd minute, Benjamin Oketch scoring a consolation from a free-kick.

K’Ogalo who sit top of the log with 62 points will clinch a historic 17th KPL gong at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani on August 25 if they beat arch rivals AFC Leopards, if they will have won the preceding two ties.

Before facing Ingwe the Dylan Kerr coached side is lined up  to face Chemilil Sugar on August 16 before confronting fourth place Sofapaka six days later in Kinoru Stadium.

Despite the pile up of the KPL matches and two CAF-Confederation ties in the month of August, the champions have   only dropped points in two matches, a 2-2 draw against Nakumatt FC in Machakos and their first loss of the season, a 2-1 result away to Bandari FC in Mombasa last week.
