Thriller at Camp Toyoyo as Assad hold Liberty
SS Assad came from behind to earn a point after battling Liberty FC to a 2-2 draw in an FKF Division One match staged at Camp Toyoyo on Sunday.
Tevin Opondo headed the opener for Liberty in the 17th minute following a fine cross from Thomas Ganda before returning the favour 10 minutes later when Ganda headed home his free kick.
However, Assad pulled one back in the 61st minute after Mohammed Mwachiponi was played through by Ali Juma to slot into the top right corner.
The goal was arguably the turning point for Assad as they pressed Liberty, forcing them to play in their own half for majority of the second half.
The away fans were however left frustrated as their side missed chance after chance to bring the game level – with winger Mohammed Bahati missing a one-on-one chance in the 85th minute, putting his low effort wide.
When it seemed that Liberty could be walking away with a hard fought win, Assad’s Tumaini Bakari’s had other ideas, striking in the 90th minute to ensure for shared spoils.
